A fact about Courtney Cornelius

I moved to Birmingham just over three years ago and have really fallen for the city which has a great creative scene and community vibe. I’m particularly excited for STEAMhouse to have a home in Digbeth which is home to my three favourite aspects of Birmingham, Digbeth First Friday, The Digbeth Dining Club and Crossfit Digbeth.

I’ve always been a maker, originally training as a modelmaker specialising in architectural model making, I’ve had the opportunity to work for some of the UK’s leading architects as well as putting my skills towards prop making for film and TV. I work with a variety of manufacturing techniques from traditional moulding and casting to newer processes like 3D printing and laser cutting,

I’ll usually be either maintaining machinery, running workshop inductions or experimenting with new techniques and processes. Generally looking after the workshops, supporting SME’s in prototyping and keeping the place tidy, and if you can’t find me in the Digital or one of the Wood Workshops I’ll be by the coffee machine!

It’s all about knowledge transfer, learning new things and passing on information to benefit each-other.

I’m really excited to lean some new skills and meet likeminded people, I’m looking forward to working with the other technicians in their specialist areas to find out what’s possible when you’re free to experiment across disciplines.

Different people have different outlooks on the world, often it can be people that are completely alien to whatever concept or product you’re working on that can point out what works and what doesn’t. It’s easy to get stuck when you’re working independently or with people who think exactly like you but collaborating with a different industry or person can really help get you thinking outside of your regular box!

Definitely my morning coffee!

Did you know I did CrossFit? XD
