A fact about Sophia Tarr

Sophia Tarr's ideal STEAMlabs delegate

I’m a great believer in being positive, work hard, play hard and trusting your gut instincts as all these things have allowed me to take risks throughout my life with a lot of positive outcomes.

I adore the sound of birds singing and children giggling especially my own son.

I love travelling, experiencing different cultures, music and cuisines.

Originally from London, I came from a corporate background, before leaving to travel alone across Asian, South-East Asia and Australia, for two years before returning to London to study Drama and Education at The Central School of Speech and Drama.

I then left university to work in the Arts before relocating to Nottingham for a very short spell and then Birmingham as the Festivals & Initiatives Manager at Birmingham City Council to deliver a project called Urban Fusion, funding and delivering various projects across niche music, digital light and jewellery festivals, public art, contemporary art, dance, film and theatre.

After spending 5+ years at Birmingham City Council, I decided to become a Freelance Artistic Consultant, Events and Project Manager delivering projects such as Birmingham Made Me, Festival of Imagination, Jamaica in the Square, Longbridge Light Festival and many more including most recently, Google Digital Garage.

Helping to raise the profile of STEAMhouse and STEAMlabs by encouraging SMEs to take advantage of the great opportunities provided within the co-working space and designing STEAMlabs to help improve their business by collaborating with partners to help take them in a new direction.

Pushing the boundaries, sharing ideas, being open minded and not being afraid to try new approaches.

Without collaborations, any challenges to try and solve problems that we face in our society today across innovation, social political and economic platforms, make it very difficult to be successful.

To be known as a flagship innovative, creative and collaborative co-working space that generates funding, new, ideas and supports SMEs in being more successful in their processes and products.

From STEAMlabs I’d like to produce case studies and toolkits to support SMEs in making their ideas and businesses more lucrative.

My family & family vinyl collection.

I absolutely hate coffee cake!

Stephen Hawking.
